  1. The key scene was to show sma few things. First, Nick IS a “criminal”. Like many addicts he’s had to steal to survive. We saw that when he escaped the hospital. He stole the phone among other things.

    More importantly, it shows up the other guy. That guy thinks he’s the smartest and most manipulative, but Nick is resourceful. Nick shows he isn’t the passive, weak one in their dynamic. He could’ve gotten out on his own.

    Player got played, in essence.
